"Just keep this in mind: while the powers that be start to re-shape what this place is about over the next few weeks and months, if it goes in the direction that some of the top level people want, your art will be judged on it's ability to generate INCOME for them and the CENSORING of work being submitted here will start."(from the journal of `krash)

While I fully understand DA's need for money in order to keep this site running, I also feel that if the site turns into a more business-oriented place, putting less emphasis on community and more emphasis on gaining revenue, it will deter many new artists from joining the site (and by "new", I mean both developed artists who haven't been here before AND artists that are just starting to blossom).
This site, as it has been and as it is currently, provides a place for up-and-coming artists to spread their wings, myself included. I have grown so much from the time that I joined a year ago, and I have this intimate atmosphere (where I feel safe posting even my not-so-great pieces), constructive and encouraging comments from fellow deviants, and the inspiration from other, more experienced artists on DA to thank for that.
I think it will hurt DA (as a functional business) if the site becomes more interested in profit than anything else, because this site will lose not only artists who have been here a long time, but also artists who might have joined had they felt more welcome. I know that if DA had been more about business and less about community a year ago, I never would have joined.
As for the first paragraph in this entry, if DA starts censoring artwork, especially if its making its decision as to what deviations deserve to be here based on their worth to the site and ability to generate income, I can assure you that I will no longer be a member of DeviantArt. I really hope it doesn't come to that, because this site has meant so much to me over the last 14 months, and I hope that in the future I can be even more active in this site than I have been.
